Juan Carlos Obando™
(b.1977). In the past, JC has worked as an Art director and Creative Director of advertising powerhouses such as Young & Rubicam and Saatchi & Saatchi for clients including BMW, Coca-Cola, Sony, Nestle, Walt Disney Co. He created the “Let imagination run your life” ad campaign for Toyota which aired to much acclaim during Super Bowl XXXVI.
When not busy developing innovative and emotional ad campaigns for these brands, he spent time teaching himself how to construct garments from the inside out by deconstructing vintage pieces. This enabled him to understand the value of hand craftsmanship, tailoring and traditional sewing techniques as a craft he was very curious about and as a medium to express his vision through something hand made.
In the spring of 2008 he started showing his collections in New York City after a private audience with Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. His collection gathered the support of fashion editors and industry insiders, landing him a nomination for the CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund.
Harold Koda, head of the MET’s Costume Institute, recently invited JC to participate in a discussion panel lead by Pulitzer Prize winner Robin Givhan about the current state of young American fashion.
Juan Carlos Lives and works in Los Angeles and is now a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). His collections are carried in world renowned stockists such as Barneys New York. Global brands including Swarovski and M.A.C. Cosmetics are key supporters of his fashion career.
